This case may have been right for the future of Christophe Galtier at Paris Saint-Germain. Thanked this summer by PSG after a complicated year on the sporting level and outside, the 56-year-old technician was accused of having made racist remarks about several Muslim players from Nice when he was in office. Accusations which Julien Fournier, former director of football for Ineos, had been at the origin of since an e-mail sent to his management, which leaked to the press.

A case that caused a stir and justice got involved. Julien Fournier, several Nice players, Didier Digard (ex-coach) and leaders, including President Jean-Pierre Rivère, had been heard by the police in connection with this case. Three months after this episode, Julien Fournier came out of silence and wanted to testify in the columns of nice-matin. The former superior of Galtier in particular totally refutes having been at the origin of the leak of this letter.

Julien Fournier accused of covering up the case

“I didn’t see anything happen, I was with family abroad, disconnected from the news. Contrary to what people may have thought, and this is normal, I am absolutely not at the origin of this leak which I find disgusting in form and timing., he explained in particular, assuring that he wanted the sporting good of the Riviera club. The ex-leader also ensures that his email was written in May 2022, well before, therefore, its disclosure in the media.

Julien Fournier then mentioned the reasons which led him to write this email against the ex-coach of PSG. “Some people at the club, who had known about everything that had happened, criticized me for covering up this stuff. For once, I had been in total opposition on these subjects (with Christophe Galtier, editor’s note) throughout the season. So it was double jeopardy. I was openly reproached for not having denounced him. I couldn’t stand it”he added, specifying that football must remain “the only environment where there are no differences of race and religion”.
