Manchester City identified Xavi Simons as a potential alternative to Rayan Cherki in the event of failure for the recruitment of the Lyon attacker.

According to the team, City considers Simons as a rescue option for Cherki, while negotiations continue for the recruitment of the Lyon playmaker. The RB Leipzig star is expected to leave the club this summer, his current employer who has failed to qualify for the Champions League. He was preselected in case the Mancunian club managed to obtain the signing of Cherki.

Rayan Cherki with Skyblues?

City aims to recruit a replacement for the departure of Kevin de Bruyne, and Cherki would have concluded a personal agreement with City before her transfer. An offer should be submitted soon. The 21 -year -old has a release clause of around 25 million pounds sterling.

Xavi Simons targeted

Simons joined Leipzig definitively in January, but the failure of his transfer to the Champions League leaves the door open to a departure. He was also mentioned with Manchester United, while Arsenal would also be interested.

City hopes to reach an agreement with Cherki in the coming days. If they do not succeed, they could well turn to Simons.
