Uncertainty has been hovering for several weeks on the future of the Rennes coach. The barely finished season, many observers expected a departure from Habib Beye, or at least a change of course in Brittany. Internal discussions, strategic meetings, heavy silences: everything suggested that management prepared a revolution behind the scenes. Supporters, players, media: all held their breath, watching for the announcement that was going to clarify the situation of the one who embodied the renewal, but also the limits of the Rennes season.
But it was a maintenance that was made. President Arnaud Pouille confirmed it at the start of the week: Habib Beye will still be on the bench of Stade Rennais next season. If the 12th place obtained in Ligue 1 was able to arouse disappointment, the leaders greet above all the energy and the positive momentum instilled by the former defender since his arrival. According to Pouille, “There is no subject: Habib is on a positive dynamic, he has brought energy, there is no reason not to continue with him. »»
Stade Rennais: Beye will remain, the project is built around it
This maintenance is not the result of chance. Several meetings took place at La Piverdière, associating the president, the coach, the new sports director Loïc Désiré and Laurent Bessière, responsible for a new performance unit. Objective: to lay solid bases and align everyone on the roadmap. These exchanges, deemed constructive, have finished convincing the management to build around Beye.
Habib Beye, active support and erect roadmap
In parallel, the maintenance of Habib Beye automatically leads to an extension of one year of his contract, until 2026. But the discussions already go further: negotiations are initiated to consider an even longer extension. The club wants to bet on stability, a guarantee of progression for next season.
The verdict has therefore fallen: Habib Beye continues the adventure in Rennes, a symbol of continuity in an increasingly unstable Ligue 1 context. The next meeting is already set: the resumption of training on June 27. It remains to be seen whether this choice will be synonymous with success for a club which, now, no longer has the right to make mistakes.
