Antoine Griezmann may not have said his last word this season. If number 7 of Atlético is now one goal on his last 20 games, he gave a decisive pass last Sunday against Real Betis, as part of the penultimate day of the Liga. Entering the 70th minute of play in place of Alexander Sorho, for his third match in a row as a replacement, “Grizi” made a dazzling one with Giuliano Simeone to offer the 3rd goal to Julian Alvarez (75th). Angel Correa closed the scoring at the end of the match (4-1).
The formation of Diego Simeone experienced a second part of the nightmare season with an elimination in the knockout stages of the Champions League by Real Madrid (at Metropolitano) and an outing in the semi-finals of the King Cup against Barça (also in front of his audience in the return match), before losing ground quickly in the race for the title, completely dropped by the Blaugranas. The Colchoneros are however satisfied with a qualification in C1.
The 3rd of Liga concludes in Girona on Sunday, and the “Cholo” could reward its veterans Koke, Antoine Griezmann and Angel Correa. In the training on Wednesday, “Grizi” prepared with the team of holders alongside his Argentinian teammate, recruited the same summer as him in the capital, in 2014, and who decided to leave the club. This may allow the 2018 world champion to improve his record of 16 goals and 9 assists in 52 matches in all competitions. Conor Gallagher, Marcos Llorente and Samuel Lino would complete the midfield for the moment.

Alexander Sorho and Julian Alvarez could therefore be content with an entry into play in the second period in this last Liga match in Catalonia. At least, Simeone took advantage of the end of the season to install the Norwegian center-center of 1.95 m in a point with the Argentinian crack in support. While Griezmann is ready to take on a joker role for his last year in Spain, we may be holding the offensive duo of next season, even if a Darwin Nunez is suddenly announced at Atlético.
Note that, after the next international window (devoted to the Final Four of the League of Nations and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers), Atlético players will meet directly for the Club World Cup (June 14-July 13). Griezmann and his teammates fell into the PSG group in the United States and will start from the start against the Red and Blue, on June 15 in Los Angeles, before facing the Seattle Sounders and Botafogo.
