Last season, Bayern Munich has experienced a real cataclysm by living its first white season since the 2011/2012 fiscal year. Released in the German Cup by Sarrebruck who played in German D3 (2-1), the Rekordmeister who was then coached by Thomas Tuchel had especially finished third in Bundesliga 18 points from Bayer Leverkusen who then ended 11 years of hegemony of the Bavarians. Even the Champions League semi-final did not console itself with a failed exercise in its large widths. To replace it, Bayern Munich has multiplied the tracks like Xabi Alonso, Sebastian Hoeneß, Roberto de Zerbi, Ralf Rangnick and Julian Nagelsmann. Finally, none led and the Bavarians then set their sights on Vincent Kompany. The Belgian coach then remained on a Promotion in the Premier League with Burnley followed by an immediate relegation of the Clarets in Championship. Uncommon, the former Anderlecht coach and Manchester City defender was then expected at the turn.

A decision that has been widely commented and which has given birth to a wave of skepticism. “At the club, we all agree that Vincent Kompany is the right coach for FC Bayern and we are impatient to work with him. Max Eberl and Christoph Freund never abandoned and worked meticulously to find a coach who can lead FC Bayern to success and develop it with new ideas. Vincent Kompany represents exactly the unity and team spirit we need ”let go of the director general of Bayern Munich Jan-Christian Dreesen in order to be reassuring. To help him in his mission, the Bavarians offered him the means with 149 million euros spent for Michael Olise (Crystal Palace), João Palhinha (Fulham), Hiroki Ito (VFB Stuttgart) this summer as well as Jonas Urbig (FC Cologne) in winter. All while losing anyone apart from the Mancunian duo made up of Matthijs de Ligt and Ussir Mazraoui. Finding an alchemy fairly quickly by installing a formidable 4-2-3-1 managing to get the most out of its workforce.

The future promises to be brilliant for Kompany and Bayern Munich

Very quickly, Vincent Kompany had exposed his ambitions, become the national reference again and crush the championship: “If you play against Bayern, it must represent an almost impossible mission. I am not saying that it will happen immediately, I do not say that this is where we are right now, but when I played against the best teams in Bayern, they could give you this feeling. This is not the case every year, but some teams have given you this feeling, and that is what you remember. For us, the goal is to come back as quickly as possible to give this feeling to many adversaries. If everything was not perfect in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich took over the head of the championship in the 3rd day to never let go. All while having the best attack (93 goals scored) and the best defense in the championship (32 goals conceded). Total domination over the championship which made it possible to relegate Le Bayer Leverusen (2nd) to 8 points and especially the Eintracht Frankfurt (3rd) to 20 units.

However, a feeling of success which is not total. Released by the Bayer Leverkusen (1-0) in the round of 16 of the German Cup, Bayern Munich disappointed in the Champions League with losses in group stage against Aston Villa (1-0), FC Barcelona (4-1) and Feyenoord (3-0) but also a difficult qualification in dams against Celtic Glasgow (2-1/1-1). Releasing the Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16, Bayern Munich was released on a good note against Inter Milan (2-1/2-2) but could have done much better, especially since the competition final will take place at the Allianz Arena. Some other problems should be noted, like certain recruits. If Michael Olise took another dimension and young Jonas Urbig is solid in Bavarian goals, Hiroki Ito and especially Joao Palhinha have disappointed a lot of time to the infirmary. The management of young people also posed a problem since Aleksandar Pavlovic was little used even if he has experienced physical seeds. In front, Mathys Tel was constrained at the start this winter in the direction of Tottenham. The others did not really have their chance in the team. However, despite some black dots, optimism is part.

While the atmosphere was gloomy in the locker room and some players like Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies were at the end of the contract, they knew how to raise this season before extending. Brought to leaving at the end of the season, Thomas Müller even said that he has never seen such a united group at the site of La Bundesliga : “This completely harmonious image that we saw again this season, this unit between the coach, the team and the club, I have never seen this. Even at the time of the six titles of Hansi Flick, it did not look like that. We were very successful with Hansi Flick, but there were also frictions between the coach and the club management.Giving dynamism to the group, the main success of Vincent Kompany after a year and a half of tensions with Thomas Tuchel. “”I have the feeling that we are on the right track, even by looking at the team. The agreement in the locker room is really good. There could be things to doFor his part, Joshua Kimmich said. And that could be the beginning of a great story between the Belgian coach and Bayern Munich. The German club is trying to recruit Florian Wirtz to accompany the Musiala-Olise-Kane trio which fully participated in this successful exercise. Vincent Kompany will now have to confirm.
