Mikel Arteta demanded a reaction from his Arsenal team against Paris Saint-Germain, after a frustrating defeat against Bournemouth.

After the Bournemouth 2-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium, Arteta admitted that it was exactly the opposite of what Arsenal wanted to prepare to face the Parisians in the semi-final return of the Champions League on Wednesday.

Arsenal has a mission against PSG

The Gunners must now face the defeat with a revengeed spirits to have a chance to win: they need a margin of two goals in Paris to win in 90 minutes, without extension.

The race for the title of the Premier League is over and it is very unlikely that Arsenal is the way of the Top 5. The Champions League is therefore naturally a priority, especially because the Gunners have never won it. But a positive result against Bournemouth, which they did not obtain, would have been a real boost for the return match. Arteta must therefore seek other ways to motivate his team.

Arteta motivates his own

Arteta told the first League productions: “ On the question of whether the team lost its momentum before facing PSG: “It did not create the right dynamic. This created a lot of anger, frustration, rage and disappointment. Let’s go to all this on Wednesday. This is what we have to do. »»

He added during his post-match press conference: “ We absolutely wanted to create a very good atmosphere, a positive result would really help us to build what we wanted for Wednesday. What we have created now is a lot of rage, anger, frustration and a big discomfort. So be sure to take advantage of it on Wednesday to achieve an exceptional performance in Paris, win the match and reach the final. »»

Wednesday evening in Paris has the potential to define not only the Arsenal season, but also its history. All the other major first League clubs won the Champions League at least once, the Gunners having spent very close in 2006, but never again since. If this season ends without trophy, it could even mark the Arteta era.
