Dazn, the main broadcaster of Ligue 1, wishes to renegotiate the terms of his contract with the Professional Football League (LFP). According to RMC Sport, the British broadcaster offers a new contractual structure including a variable part and a sharing of income, in order to continue the broadcast of the French championship.

In this proposal, Dazn undertakes to pay a fixed sum between 200 and 250 million euros per season over a period of five years. To this would be added a variable part, estimated between 150 and 200 million euros, depending on criteria such as the improvement of the product and the opening of clubs to Dazn teams to offer more premium content. This model aims to align the interests of the diffuser and the LFP, by sharing the revenues generated beyond the fixed amount.

Dazn wishes the exclusivity of the diffusion

Dazn also offers to recover all Ligue 1 matches, currently shared with BeIN Sports. This would imply that Bein Sports abandon his poster on Saturday at 5 p.m. Although the leaders of the Qatarian chain are not closed to this idea, they want to honor their contractual commitments.

Persistent tensions between Dazn and LFP

Since Dazn has not paid for in time for his last deadline in February, confidence between the LFP and the broadcaster was eroded. The LFP had to draw from its reserve fund to ensure the payment of clubs, and a new payment failure could jeopardize the cash flow of many clubs. DAZN would be ready to honor its last two deadlines in April and June, but the LFP requires additional compensation in the event of early breach of the contract.

The Ligue 1 clubs will meet this Tuesday to examine the proposals resulting from mediation between the LFP and Dazn. A decision must be made quickly to ensure the financial stability of the championship and avoid a crisis similar to that which occurred with Mediapp in 2020.
