UEFA has appointed Spaniard José Maria Sanchez Martinez to arbitrate the quarter -final return of the Champions League between Aston Villa and PSG, scheduled for Tuesday at Villa Park. A first at this level of competition for the 41 -year -old game director, who will officiate for the very first time at this stage of the competition.
Referee in the Queen of European competitions for four seasons, Sanchez Martinez has only only a limited number of meetings, with the reference to the eighth finals go between Dortmund and Lille on March 4 (1-1). Accustomed to shocks in Liga, he had notably led the last clásico to the Santiago-Bernabéu, widely won by Barça (4-0) in October. In France, the memories are positive: he had arbitrated Brest during his victory against the PSV Eindhoven (1-0), and already Lille during the return against Fenerbahçe, with a qualification torn in the 118th minute.
