A World Cup at 64 for the centenary
“We are convinced that the celebration of the centenary will be unique, because we only celebrate once a hundred years. This is why we propose, for the first time, to organize this anniversary with 64 teams, on three continents simultaneously, ”enthuses the boss of the Conmebol, Alejandro Dominguez.
It remains to determine the sporting interest of such an opening, beyond of course economic considerations. With its 48 committed, the 2026 World Cup already promises to display a unprecedented level of levels and not necessarily most constructive. What about a World Cup at 64?
