Olympique Lyonnais has just completed a transfer but which may not please the supporters too much.

OL have just recorded a significant reinforcement in defense, but this is likely to arouse as many grimaces as applause from the supporters. The Rhone club has brought into its ranks a former rival club Marseille.

Lyon took a big risk

The player in question is Duje Caleta-Car. The Croatian rear has signed up on loan with Laurent Blanc’s team. He will form a central hinge there with his compatriot Dejan Lovren. He comes from Southampton, but he is best known for having played for OM for four years (between 2018 and 2022).

The 2018 vice-world champion may not be welcome at Groupama Stadium. And we can imagine that he will be even less well received at the Vélodrome during the trip to the Phocaeans. It is not Mathieu Valbuena who will suggest the opposite, since he lived through hell after going from one Olympic to another (with a stint at Dynamo Moscow in the middle).

As a reminder, in addition to Valbuena, Jérémy Morel also defended the colors of Lyon after having played for a long time under those of Marseille.

Caleta-Car’s loan comes with a purchase option. A purchase option which will be mandatory and applied when the DNCG sanctions against Rhodaniens are lifted. The defender has agreed with OL on a four-year contract (3+1) and this paying loan finances the player’s salary with the Saints.
