Since the first tensions between the LFP and Dazn, the world of French football has lived to the rhythm of the uncertainties. While the British platform threatens to break its contract this summer, a solution seemed to be insistently emerging in recent weeks: LFP Media, the famous 100% Ligue 1. On paper, the project has everything to reassure clubs and supporters. Distributed on a platform like Max by Warner Bros, this house channel would allow the LFP to regain control of its distribution and maximize its income … Ultimately.
The plan seduces because it promises, according to the most optimistic projections, up to 600 million euros in medium -term income. With a subscription to 20 or 27.99 € per month, and an enriched offer of films and series, the model recalls that of Video Prime, which had experienced relative success. But this strategy presupposes to convince a large audience very quickly, even though clubs are sorely lacking in cash. And this is where the rub: the money would only arrive after a long period of implementation, while the urgency is immediate.
Dazn on departure: Ligue 1 plays its future on a blurred idea
Many come to hope for an intervention by beIN Sports. The Qatari diffuser, in the past, has already saved the furniture. And its president, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, has always played a central role in the economy of French football. But since the program “Investigation supplement” which has directly targeted it, the president of PSG seems much less disposed to come to the aid of a system which publicly attacked it. Will his silence in the face of the current crisis question: will Qatar still accept playing patrons?
Dazn Out? Ligue 1 bets on itself, at the risk of losing everything
Meanwhile, the options are reduced. Canal+ makes the deaf ear, Bein remains discreet, and Dazn displays colossal losses estimated at 240 million euros. Behind the scenes, club presidents are worried.
“If we don't have a plan B, we are dead”summarizes Waldemar Kita. Joseph Oughourlian, boss of the RC Lens, also presses to act without waiting for the April deadline.
In the end, the replacement for Dazn may be just a mirage, a projection too good to be true. If LFP Media remains the most serious track, it does not offer any short -term guarantee. And the climate of distrust between broadcasters, clubs and instances does not help. More than ever, Ligue 1 is suspended from a crucial decision … which is slow to come.
