Lionel Messi’s adventure at Inter Miami is off to a perfect start and the 36-year-old Argentinian idol is trying to blend into his new team’s collective by speaking English. He even takes lessons!
After arriving at PSG in the summer of 2021, Lionel Messi never learned French… He didn’t necessarily need it! His first coach in the French capital was a fellow Argentinian (Mauricio Pochettino) and the Paris squad included close friends and many other Spanish-speaking players (even Kylian Mbappé speaks the language of Cervantes).
In Florida, where he has just landed, Messi is visibly determined to quickly speak English. The Finn Robert Taylor, one of his new attacking friends, assures us that his new Argentinian captain speaks to him in the language of Shakespeare and even announces that “La Pulga” is taking lessons. The 36-year-old idol wants to quickly communicate smoothly with the whole team.
The Ballons d’Or record holder (before his probable 8th coronation next October) can obviously count on his compatriot Tata Martino as coach and his Spanish friends Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, who also landed in Miami this summer, as well as on several teammates from Latin America. But the rest of the team is obviously made up of local players.
After two successful first matches (already 2 goals and 2 assists), Messi continues this Wednesday against Orlando City, in the den of Inter Miami, on behalf of the Leagues Cup (a summer competition between American clubs and Mexicans). David Beckham’s Florida franchise will return to MLS on August 21 with their new superstar.
