Mourinho, the scandalous sanction

José Mourinho risked a historic sanction for having physically attacked his counterpart Okan Buruk during the Istanbul derby between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray, last Wednesday, in the quarter -finals of the Turkey Cup. The disciplinary cell of the Turkish Football Federation returned its verdict this Saturday.

For having pinched the nose of the Galatasaray coach by taking it by surprise after a strong verbal explanation, the Portuguese technician received a suspension of three matches but with a funny subtlety in support: the sentence being hardly valid in the Cup of Turkey.

In other words, José Mourinho will not be sanctioned this season to have violently attacked a colleague on the sidelines of a match, in view of all. And if he does not pursue the adventure with Fenerbahçe one more year, the interested party will not serve his sentence at all.

Mourinho already suspended in February

Why such a leniency? Because the disciplinary body considered that the reaction of the “special one”, certainly reprehensible, was the consequence of a passive and a stormy context where each of the two camps had committed its share of provocations. No less than eight players – ultimately – having been punished in this delicate file.

Last February, José Mourinho had already faced the disciplinary council of the Turkish championship. The Lusitanian strategist had called galatasaray players ”
monkeys And thus received a suspension of four matches. A judgment brought back to two appeal matches.
