The Banyama Banyama win their first success in the World Cup and even qualify for the round of 16.

This is one of the sensations of this 2023 World Cup. South Africa dominated Italy (3-2) this Wednesday in Wellington, and won its place in the round of 16 of the competition.

The Transalpines only needed a draw to qualify. Arianna Caruso opened the scoring (11th sp), but South Africa responded with a CSC from Benedetta Orsi (32nd sp) and a goal from Hildah Magaia (67th). Caruso responded by scoring a double (74th), but Thembi Kgatlana scored the qualifying goal (90th +2). Despite more than 16 minutes of additional time, Italy will not return.

It is the first-ever World Cup success for the Banyama Banyama, who are taking part in the tournament for the second time after 2019. South Africa will face the Netherlands in the round of 16. It is Sweden who finished at the top of this group, and who will be opposed to the United States.
