Real Madrid are approaching the new season with a lot of enthusiasm, but also a lot of doubts. The message emanating from within the camp is, however, generally positive.
Los Blancos started the pre-season well against Milan and Manchester United, showing a new system with Jude Bellingham at the tip of a diamond midfield, but they disappointed in the 3-0 loss to Barcelona in the Clasico .
Aurélien Tchouameni was however positive about the preparation for the new season.
“We are working well these days with (physical trainer Antonio) Pintus and the coaching staff, we are happy. We don’t play friendlies because we are up against good teams and we want to do well. We work very well in training and we want to do the same in matches.
“We are playing well in pre-season. We are using a new system and we have to learn how to play in this system every day. We have an incredible team and I’m sure we’re going to have an incredible season.
From a personal point of view, Tchouameni has regained his best level, after a difficult second part of the season.
“I feel good with the team and I think I did a good job. During the holidays, I worked a lot with the physical trainer. I feel good on the pitch, we want to play well and improve every day”.
He lost his place to Eduardo Camavinga, with Fede Valverde and Rodrygo Goes also being in the squad ahead of him. The competition shouldn’t be easier with the arrival of Jude Bellingham.
“I think we have the best midfield in the world, with legends like Luka (Modric) and Toni (Kroos). We learn from them every day. We also have youngsters who have an incredible level like Bellingham, Camavinga, Valverde, (Dani) Ceballos and myself. We are going to be successful this season.”he thundered in brand.
If Tchouameni manages to maintain his form from pre-season, he could well retain his place, but at this stage it’s hard to argue with the Frenchman’s assessment. Manchester City might have a say, but even that side have lost Ilkay Gundogan to FC Barcelona, who out of three positions could challenge them for the title. In terms of depth, no other team seems to come close.
