Ukraine’s Dnipro suffered food poisoning ahead of their game in Greece. A complaint to UEFA is mentioned.
Olympique de Marseille now know their opponent for the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League. It will be Panathinaikos, who eliminated Dnipro-1 (3-1, 2-2) for the second round.
This double confrontation was marked by a funny affair. The Ukrainian club indeed accuses its Greek counterpart of poisoning, and would intend to file a complaint with UEFA.
According to the Ukrainian portal Tatotake, no less than eight players fell ill the night before the return match in Greece. The Dnipro-1 is convinced that its players have been contaminated by “drinking water and fruit” who were in the visitors’ locker room at the Pana stadium.
Tatotake, however, specifies that six of the eight infected players recovered quickly. The other two, Eduard Sarapiy and Alexei Gutsulyak, have long been doubts for the match. But the first was a good starter, while the second came into play.
In total, of the eight players mentioned by Tatotake, six took part in the meeting. The other two remained on the bench, but they had already been substitutes in the first leg and had not played either.
As a reminder, Dnipro-1 lost 3-1 the first leg, which was held in Slovakia. On their return to Greece, the visitors led 2-1, with a goal from Sarapiy in particular, but Panathinaikos validated their qualification with this draw (2-2).
