Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, could probably access any high -level vacant post in Europe this summer, but the post he covets remains uncertain until the end of the season.

The Basque coach is strongly expected to succeed Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, a club where he has played as a player before starting his coach career as a coach for 19 years.

Ancelotti is under contract until 2026, but Real Madrid could decide to dismiss him if he does not win the Liga title or the Champions League this season. However, the club will not make any decision concerning its last year of contract as long as it is not clear. Although Alonso is largely expected to succeed him and contacts were established between Real and his team, Bayer Leverkusen wishes to obtain a response from him in order to continue to plan next season.

Ancelotti on departure?

Alonso is also under contract until the end of next season, but an agreement was concluded with CEO Fernando Carro so that he can leave if Real Madrid requests him. According to Diario AS, Alonso will unveil his plans for next season at a press conference on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. CEST, where he will answer the media questions concerning the shock between Leverkusen and the VFL Bochum. According to some information, Alonso also announces its maintenance to the German club next season.

If Alonso had to leave, he could wait for Ancelotti's failure, whether this season or the next one. On the other hand, if he remained in Leverkusen and that Encelotti was dismissed this summer, the Merengues could seek another option, in which case the plans of Alonso would also be dependent on the successes of the new coach. Summer is also far from ideal for taking the reins of the club, the Club World Cup probably preventing it from starting to work before July.
