Real Madrid could suspend Arda Guler’s license until January due to his injury, according to Spanish media.
Los Blancos managed to beat stiff competition from FC Barcelona to land the young Turkish wonderkid in a deal that cost them €20m. The money seems to have been well spent as the 18-year-old adapted to Real Madrid training immediately like a fish to water.
But the young man was then the victim of a seemingly harmless injury. It was widely expected that he would simply have to give up the friendly Clasico against Barcelona – which Los Blancos lost 3-0 – due to a minor strain, but medicals have now revealed a much more serious problem.
Indeed, Guler suffers from a lesion of the medial meniscus of the right knee and risks spending several weeks on the treatment table.
The club will now have to make a decision on whether to undergo surgery but will wait to see how the injury progresses first. Even without surgery, Guler could miss up to 12 weeks as La Liga kicks off on August 12.
If a visit to the operating theater is necessary, the young player will have to stay on the sidelines even longer. According Mundo Deportivo, he could be out for five months, which could prompt Real Madrid to unregister him in order to free up a squad spot until January.
