Real Madrid remains interested in a possible summer transfer offer for Arsenal's defensive star, William Saliba.

Despite an injury crisis in central defense in early 2025, Carlo Ancelotti chose not to join new players in his workforce, David Alaba having finally returned.

Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao should not be back this season, Antonio Rüdiger assuming an important workload, despite the rise of Raul Asencio as a first team. Ancelotti wishes to review the situation concerning Saliba before the 2025/26 season, in parallel with a wider defensive overhaul in Madrid.

Liverpool's right side, Trent Alexander-Arnold, remains the main target, and Real Madrid has submitted its free English transfer offer. However, Anfield has been short of news since the beginning of 2025. Real Madrid closely follows the Saliba contract extension projects at the Emirates Stadium, its current lease due in 2027, and discussions are planned with Mikel Arteta in June.

The absence of trophies at Arsenal could also influence the Saliba decision, the 23 -year -old being currently estimated at around 80 million euros. Saliba will face the Merengues in the quarterfinals of Champions League next month, two games that will decide on the outcome of the Arsenal season.

Saliba, se queda

With Liverpool in full race in the title in the Premier League – and a place in the Champions League almost assured for next season – beating Ancelotti and his troop is the only chance for Arteta to fight for a trophy in the last weeks of the season.

However, despite the growing attention paid to Saliba, the French star is not ready to leave London for Madrid this summer because she wishes at least an additional year with Arteta. According to transfer experts Fabrizio Romano, Saliba reassured Arteta and the new sports director Andrea Berta on his projects for 2025/26 and Ancelotti could now seek elsewhere to strengthen his defense in the Spanish capital.
