The president of the Egyptian football federation, Hani Abu Rida, expressed the wish to Gianni Infantino at the general assembly of the African Football Confederation. He hopes that FIFA will respond favorably to this request, which would be an opportunity to celebrate the centenary of the first participation of the pharaohs in the World Cup: “I hope that FIFA will grant, on the occasion of our centenary in 2034, the honor of welcoming and organizing one of the groups of the 2034 World Cup, as Fichers and Egyptians. »»
What FIFA response?
This is not the first time that Egypt has been mentioned to organize a World Cup. A joint candidacy between Saudi Arabia and Egypt, also including Greece, had already been suggested for the 2030 edition before the idea was ultimately abandoned.
While FIFA had attributed the organization of the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia last December, it is not sure that the body accepts the request of Egypt. To attribute the organization of an event of such magnitude, the countries must meet certain criteria and submit an application file in time, which is not the case with Egypt. Saudi Arabia was then the only country to have a candidacy on time.
