France Télévisions, another controversy!

The treatment of the 2023 World Cup by France Télévisions is still talking, with a change of channel scheduled in the middle of a match on Monday.

It is not always easy to navigate, for a viewer, when a competition or a sport is broadcast on several antennas. So imagine if a match starts on one channel…and ends on another.

This is what will happen this Monday, with the Canada-Australia meeting, which will start on France 2 at noon and end on France 3. The reason? The programming, described as “compulsory” by L’Equipe, of the 1 p.m. newspaper on France 2. Saturday, a breach of this regulation had been made, but it was because it was a match of the Bleues, against Brazil. A suitable news bulletin was then broadcast before noon.

The famous “rockers” of France Télévisions are well known to spectators of Roland-Garros or the Tour de France. Sometimes they drop at very times, at an important moment in a race or game. France Télévisions journalists often point out that they have no control over these channel changes, programmed in advance, almost to the second.

Commentator Alexandre Boyon prefers to laugh about it. “We have already done much more”he recalls, evoking a “rocking” after 125 meters in the 400 meter freestyle of the Olympic Games won by Laure Manaudou in 2004. A mythical moment in French sport.
