FC Barcelona will have to delay again in its legendary Camp Nou. The enclosure has been under construction since June 2023 and was originally to be delivered at the end of 2024. The brand new stadium must gain capacity and above all offer new consumption possibilities to spectators. The idea of the club is to afford a new very important economic windfall with this brand new tool worthy of the best stadiums in the world. In the meantime, the team receives their home matches at the Olympic stadium Lluís Companys, former house of Espanyol Barcelona.
First delays have already taken place. Nothing abnormal in this kind of insane site where the general organization is a real headache, in the city moreover. The start of the club in its stadium should have taken place in mid-February with a reduced capacity at first, of the order of 50,000 to 60,000 seats, the time to finish the work in the upper floors. The new Camp Nou must reach the huge figure of 104,600 places in the end by the end of the 2025/2026 season. It is a safe bet that these objectives will not be achieved within the scheduled time.
A return at best in October 2025, at worst in 2026
According to information from Readerthe stadium will not meet the security standards required by the end of the season. It is notably access to firefighters and respect for the fire plan that pose a problem. They were not validated by the various services. Just as the evacuation plan is still pending, while it is compulsory. Safety standards provide large access ramps to urgently evacuate thousands of people in minutes. These are still not ready, preventing the reception of spectators, even in reduced capacity.
Given the various deadlines, the Spanish media gives several return dates. Barça should not return before mid-October in the most positive case. Conversely, this could intervene in January 2026, but still with a limited crowd. The Blaugranas have already asked to relocate their first three home games in La Liga next season. This is a new blow for the club, which was however ambition only two weeks ago, of “Replay official competition matches this season, with a partial capacity of more than 60,000 spectators.”
