Fuck off! With these words, Jude Bellingham saw José Luis Munuera Montero send him a red card during the match between Real Madrid and Osasuna. While the English midfielder risks a big sanction, he will at least miss the next Liga day this Sunday, February 23 against Girona. A blow for the player and the Merengues in the title race, especially since the sanction could be much heavier. Unavailability which is far from trivial for Jude Bellingham. Indeed, the English environment has been regularly subject to suspensions since its arrival on the side of the Spanish capital.

Since his transfer in the summer of 2023 from Borussia Dortmund, the native of Rourbridge has not always been impeccable with the Merengues. During his first season, he missed the match against Las Palmas (January 27, 2024) for accumulation of yellow cards and the meetings against Celta de Vigo (March 10, 2024) and Osasuna (March 16, 2024) after a red card received in End of game against Valence during the day preceding these two matches. Thus, he finished his first season with 1 red card and 11 yellow cards. For the current season, he continues his pace with 7 yellow cards and therefore the red card received this Sunday against Osasuna. He could miss 2 games and thus count 5 suspension games in a year and a half.

They had more boxes than the defenders

A situation similar to that of Vinicius Junior who has missed 5 games for suspension since the start of last season. The Brazilian received 11 yellow cards last year and had lacked a match against Bilbao (March 31, 2024) for accumulation of warnings. This season, it does even worse since it has already accumulated 11 yellow cards and lacked a champions League match against Brest (January 29, 2025) for accumulation of yellow cards. In Liga, he missed the meetings against Las Palmas (January 19, 2025) and Real Valladolid (January 25, 2025) following a red card received against Valence in the previous match.

With 3 yellow cards and 40 yellow cards in a year and a half, the Jude Bellingham – Vinicius Junior duo is regularly sanctioned whether in Liga or in the Champions League. For comparison, Antonio Rüdiger has 11 yellow cards and 0 red card over the same period and Aurélien Tchouameni displays 14 warnings over the same period while these two players have a defensive role unlike Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior. According to MarcaCarlo Ancelotti is worried about this situation and noticed that this problem was handicapping for his team. A discipline problem that the two Madrid stars will have to resolve under penalty of also sanctioning their training.
