Olympique Lyonnais easily dominated Reims (4-0) last Sunday for the first home of Paulo Fonseca. However, this victory was not enough to convince Sidney Govou. In his column for progress, the former French international remains cautious: “It is difficult to know if there was a Paulo Fonseca effect, because opposite there was not much.”

Govou not convinced by the Paulo Fonseca effect

Govou doubts the immediate impact of the Portuguese coach on the team: “Have we defended better? I want to say yes and no. The team has still conceded too many situations. ” For him, the ailments of OL have not yet been resolved, despite the apparent euphoria of this victory.

If Fonseca succeeded in his home debut, Govou did not see any real revolution in the Lyon game: “I did not find any new specificity that the coach could have brought.”However, he notes a certain rigor in the approach, but relativized by recalling: “Reims was weak.” He also underlines the tactical surprise of the match: the Tessmann and Matic association in the midfielder. “Fonseca therefore made two numbers playing six side by side which have roughly the same profiles. It was surprising. ”

Expectations measured for the future

Despite the right performance, Govou remains cautious about the rest of the season: “OL seems to me in its place in sixth position.” He stresses that the team must continue to progress, in particular to remain competitive in the Champions League. In conclusion, if the victory against Reims is a good signal, Sidney Govou is waiting to see if Paulo Fonseca will really be able to transform OL over time.
