What was to be an ambitious sports project is turning into a nightmare for Kylian Mbappé and his family. By investing via Coalition Capital, their investment fund, in Stade Malherbe de Caen, they hoped to instill a new dynamic in this historic club. But the current situation is far from this objective: Caen occupies the last place in Ligue 2, in the midst of defeats, and the anger of the supporters rumbles.

Mbappé and his family in the heart of the turmoil in Caen

Since the Norman club has switched under the control of 80% of the Mbappé family, the results did not follow, and the fans were quick to point the finger at the involvement of the new owners. Explicit banners have recently been displayed in front of the Michel-d'Ornano stadium, targeting Fayza Lamari, the mother of the tricolor international: “Fayza, the busty are in shit”could we read, in reference to the management of the current crisis.

Faced with this growing slingshot, Ziad Hammoud, club president and close to the Mbappé family, finally spoke in an interview with Ouest-France. Aware of dissatisfaction, he recognizes:
“We may not have communicated enough and I take this criticism.”

Mbappé's shadow hovers over the debacle.

But Hammoud was mainly committed to defending the commitment of Mbappés: “To say that we are disconnected is not fair. The shareholders are real football enthusiasts, 100% involved. They have invested their personal money, it is not a game for them. ” A statement which aims to reassure, but which may not be enough to calm the spirits in a region where football culture is deeply rooted.

Mbappé, the disturbing business football?

This situation raises a broader question: can this involvement of football stars like the Real scorer in historic clubs really save these institutions, or is it perceived as a simple marketing blow? If Ziad Hammoud claims that the investment is sincere, the supporters see the results and the catastrophic classification.

For the moment, the time is not in great plans for the future. “We are all focused on the Commando mission. Each match is a World Cup final,”Ensures Hammoud. But if Caen fails to keep in Ligue 2, the shadow of Mbappé could well weigh heavily than expected on this sports fiasco.
