In an interview with La Voix du Nord, Loïc Rémy, former LOSC striker, violently criticized his former club. The former French international, who will be commentating on the clash between OM and Lille for France Télévisions on Tuesday, has settled scores with the northern club, deploring the way in which his departure was managed. Strong words which risk causing a stir, particularly on the eve of a match between two of his former teams.

A bitter departure, tinged with regret

Loïc Rémy, who spent two seasons at LOSC between 2018 and 2020, still cannot digest the conditions of his departure. The former French international confided that the breakup had been poorly managed, pointing to tensions over a bonus planned in the event of European qualification: “We agreed to continue, but there was a disagreement over a bonus. During the renegotiation, Marc Ingla (general manager) told my agent that at my age, I wouldn’t find anything better. I took it as an affront.”

This situation resulted in a hasty departure, despite the efforts of certain club executives, such as José Fonte and Christophe Galtier, who tried to convince him to stay. “When I arrive at the club to say goodbye to everyone, it’s a very hard moment,” he added, visibly marked by this episode.

Rémy has not digested his departure from Lille.

Rémy deprived of the 2021 coronation

The year following his departure, Lille was crowned champion of France, a feat that Loïc Rémy was only able to experience from afar. He admits to feeling deep frustration: “Then comes the time of regrets, because I should not have left. We couldn’t find common ground.”

Despite this bitterness, Rémy has fond memories of his time at LOSC, which he considers one of the most beautiful periods of his career: “In terms of pleasure, Lille represents the two best years of my career.”

An expected media presence

Loïc Rémy will therefore be commenting on the round of 16 of the Coupe de France between OM and Lille. If his comments against LOSC leave little room for doubt, it will be interesting to see what tone the former striker will adopt during this confrontation between two of his former clubs.

This is not the first time that a former player has criticized LOSC for its management. But Rémy’s declarations, both reproachful and nostalgic, bear witness to the still raw pain of a separation that he did not choose.
