Messi’s current contract in Florida ends in December 2025, to mirror the structure of the MLS regular season, with both sides seeking an additional 12 months.
His long-term goal remains to lead Argentina to the 2026 FIFA World Cup before a likely retirement from football.
According to reports from Marca, Inter Miami are ready to extend Messi’s contract by one year until the end of 2026.
Lionel Messi back?
That would allow him to compete in the World Cup – in the United States – and complete a full campaign in Miami.
The contract would include a clause covering the off-season period in the United States, from the end of 2025 to the first months of 2026, with the option of a return to Europe.
The idea would be to allow Messi to stay in peak physical condition and Barcelona could be an option if they manage to agree a loan deal with Inter Miami.
