Barça validated its ticket to the final of the Spanish Super Cup thanks to a convincing success (2-0) against Athletic Bilbao. In a vibrant King Abdullah Sports City, the Blaugranas, led by an inspired Gavi and a brilliant Lamine Yamal, offered a top-flight performance. On Sunday, Hansi Flick could win his first title at the head of Barça, potentially against his great rival, Real Madrid.

Gavi shows the way forward at Barça

From the first minutes, Barça imposed its rhythm. Koundé gave a first thrill by taking over a sumptuous delivery from Lamine Yamal, back after three weeks of absence. In the 17th minute, it was Gavi who opened the scoring with a precise shot after a collective action orchestrated by Raphinha, Pedri and Balde. The young midfielder celebrated his goal by imitating Dani Olmo’s celebration, a tribute to his unavailable teammate.

Athletic tried to respond, but the Barcelona defense, led by a vigilant Szczesny, repelled each attack. Koundé was also decisive by saving a hot ball on his line. At the break, Barça logically led.

Koundé and Barça are one match away from winning their first trophy of the season.

Lamine Yamal, winning comeback

Back from the locker room, Barça resumed with intensity. Raphinha missed a chance, but Lamine Yamal took over. In the 49th minute, served by Lewandowski, the Catalan prodigy achieved masterful control before deceiving Unai Simón with a precise shot. This second goal suffocated Athletic’s hopes. Despite the entry into play of Nico Williams, who brought liveliness to the Basques, Szczesny remained intractable, repelling several opposing attempts.

Barça, dominant, managed the end of the match with serenity. At the end of the final whistle, Hansi Flick and his men could enjoy a deserved qualification. On Sunday, they will try to win their 15th Spanish Super Cup and offer a first coronation to their new coach.
