Everything was set, to such a point that RC Lens took the step of making the official announcement on Tuesday. And yet this Wednesday, unfortunately, Pau Lopez will ultimately not come to strengthen the Artesian ranks from OM.

In a press release published this Wednesday evening, and even though the departure of Brice Samba for Rennes was made official this afternoon, the management of the Sang et Or club justifies its decision to indeed give up the 30-year-old Spanish goalkeeper.

Girona wreaks havoc

“While a total agreement had been found between the Racing Club de Lens, Olympique de Marseille and Pau Lopez, the arrival of the Spanish international is canceled. Girona FC informed Olympique de Marseille today of its firm desire to keep the player until January 29, an unacceptable condition for Racing which is thus renouncing this signing,” explain the Lensois.

A hard blow certainly for Pau Lopez, who was counting on this six-month loan to relaunch his career while the Catalan club, to which he was initially loaned for the season and who absolutely wanted to keep him for three more weeks, did not have him barely used once since his arrival this summer, in the Coupe du Roi.
