Frenkie de Jong, it’s over

One of the most complicated issues that FC Barcelona currently has to manage is the contractual situation of Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch midfielder has already refused to renew his contract and, with his current lease expiring at the end of next season, preparations are being made to put him on the market.

In recent months, de Jong has lost a lot of importance at Barcelona. He is no longer a regular starter and when he has played, his performances have been unflattering, even disappointing. Thus, the club’s leaders are no longer ready to do everything necessary to ensure its future, according to MD.

Barça says no

Barcelona are hoping to get a pay cut with de Jong as part of contract negotiations, but the player himself does not want to earn less money. However, the club will not budge on this unless he improves his performances over the rest of the season, meaning the pressure is firmly on him.

If De Jong is on FC Barcelona’s transfer list before next summer, there would be no shortage of interest from the club: several Premier League clubs have been mentioned, as well as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. For now, it seems more likely that he will leave.
