Because the former Porto player ticks more boxes: experience (he is 30 years old), knowledge of Ligue 1, leadership, personality and the ability to be as valuable defensively as he is offensive, his excesses having delighted the public at the Vélodrome.
But this choice also carries an element of risk, as Mbemba’s current level remains uncertain. Put on the shelf for six months, the Congolese international no longer knows the rhythm of the competition. Finally, he remains a player accustomed to playing at the top of the table. The fear of heights, in a maintenance mission, is another sensation for a footballer used to looking upwards.
