This coronation allows Real Madrid to complete a golden year 2024. Winner of the Spanish Super Cup at the start of the year, the Madrid club followed up in the spring with an incredible La Liga-Champions League double before starting the new season this summer by winning the European Super Cup. Only the Copa del Rey will have escaped the Merengue club this year.
Zinedine Zidane is no longer alone
And thanks to this new title, Carlo Ancelotti enters a little more into the legend of Real Madrid. This Intercontinental Cup is in fact on the 15the trophy won by the Italian technician on the Merengue bench. Enough to make him the most successful Madrid coach in history, his 15 trophies allowing him to overtake Miguel Muñoz, winner of 14 titles at the head of Real.
This Intercontinental Cup also allows Carlo Ancelotti to set a record previously held by Zinedine Zidane. The former playmaker was in fact until Wednesday the only coach in the history of Real to have won five titles during the same calendar year. An honor that the French technician, winner of 11 titles at Real, must now share with his former mentor. In 2017, ZZ saw its troops successively win the Spanish Super Cup, La Liga, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
