Sunday evening, Kylian Mbappé (25 years old) spoke at length to Mouloud Achour during the Clique show broadcast on Canal+. The French star mentioned almost all the subjects. And he notably spoke out regarding the alleged rape case during his trip to Stockholm last October. “The affair in Sweden? I was surprised, I still am, these are things that come into your life that you don’t see coming. I received nothing, no summons, nothing, the Swedish government said nothing. I just read in the press like everyone else, I’m not concerned. It’s a lack of understanding, it didn’t bother me because I never felt concerned. It made a lot of noise but I always had the same ambition, to go to Madrid, concentrate on my job and see how it will end.

The Swedish press takes stock

He also indicated that he was at the disposal of the Swedish justice system if it ever needed to question him for its investigation. A clear statement from the former PSG player, who always denied the accusations of the alleged victim and who assured that he had a consensual sexual relationship with her. This Thursday morning, the Stockholm public prosecutor’s office also ruled on this affair which has caused ink to flow. L’AFP indicated that the Swedish justice system has decided to close its investigation into alleged rape due to insufficient evidence. In a press release, prosecutor Marina Chirakova said, without directly naming the footballer: “During the investigation, one person reasonably suspected of rape and two cases of sexual harassment were identified, but I believe that the evidence is not sufficient to continue the investigation and the investigation is therefore closed. The named person has not been suspected of a crime.”

In the process, the Swedish media Aftonbladet And Expressenwho were the first to announce that KM9 was suspected after his stay in the country’s capital, revealed behind the scenes of this decision. “the preliminary investigation against footballer Kylian Mbappé for alleged rape in Stockholm is closed. He was suspected of rape and two cases of sexual harassment, but he was never heard in this case (…) Kylian Mbappé was not suspected of a crime, and therefore could not be questioned in this case , according to the prosecutor. The suspicions of rape and two cases of sexual harassment must result from events which allegedly took place at the same time during the star’s visit to Stockholm. There should have been only one complainant in this case.clarified Aftonbladet. The Swedish publication, just like Expressenthen published further statements from the prosecutor regarding the investigation and the court decision.

The prosecutor did not question KM9

She explained in particular that the person suspected, in this case Mbappé, had not been heard. “People suspected of crimes should not be questioned without suspicion being raised. In my assessment, the evidence was not of such a nature that I could carry out the preliminary investigation (…) We took the usual investigative measures, including organizing a number of interviews. There is a figure (concerning the number of interviews conducted, editor’s note), but I cannot go any further. I don’t have the figure in mind, partly because many interrogations took place.” When asked if any foreign nationals had been questioned, she replied: “I cannot and do not want to comment on the people who were interviewed, because the preliminary investigation is still covered by secrecy.”

In addition to the interrogations, during which several young women were interviewed, the prosecutor in charge of the case also spoke of the numerous samples taken during the investigation. “It is customary in sexual violence investigations to also conduct technical investigations, and we did that in this case as well.” Aftonbladet recalls that the National Forensic Center was contacted, in particular to study the evidence, such as the clothes worn by the young woman on the evening of the events. Besides, Expressen tried to contact the lawyer of the young woman who accused the player. But he did not wish to comment on this decision. For her part, the prosecutor told RMC Sport concerning an appeal from the young woman and her lawyer. “It’s possible, they can ask for a reconsideration of my decision. This is the end of the case but in the future it is always possible to reopen it if strong new evidence comes along that can change my decision.” The case is closed, for the moment.
