Bayern Munich likes to follow Ligue 1 and does not hesitate to take action to strengthen itself. This summer, the Bavarian club, in full reconstruction after the failure of Thomas Tuchel’s passage, had targeted the young Désiré Doué. The Rennais, who had hesitated for a long time, ended up joining PSG for a sum of around 60 million euros. Used to not spending too much in the transfer window, Bayern Munich still wanted to renew its squad a little with the arrivals of Michael Olise and João Palhinha in particular.
But there still remains an offensive sector to renew. If Michael Olise brought a touch of freshness to this sector, Bayern Munich is struggling to find new elements. Coach Vincent Kompany relies on faces who have been familiar with the club for several seasons, namely Thomas Muller, Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sané. For the number 9 position, Bayern have no other option than Harry Kane. And with the England international picking up an injury recently, Kompany has to tinker in attack. A delicate situation that the management of the German club does not want to experience for too long.
A replacement for Harry Kane
In this sense, Sport And BILD reveal that Bayern Munich have entered the race for… Jonathan David. The LOSC striker, top scorer in Ligue 1 with 11 goals in 14 matches, is coming to the end of his contract this summer and can therefore negotiate with the club of his choice from the start of January. If he is linked to Premier League clubs, the Canadian is especially in the sights of Bayern who want to make him an alternative to Harry Kane. The management has even already started discussions with the player and hopes to convince him to join the Bundesliga in a number two role at the forefront of the attack.
The 24-year-old striker, also coveted by Barça, ticks all the boxes on a sporting and economic level to please Bayern Munich who had also hesitated with the idea of recruiting a big number 9. The name of Viktor Gyökeres was even mentioned, but Bayern Munich, with the presence of Harry Kane in the squad, is rather looking for a complementary number 9. It remains to convince Jonathan David to accept this role while he is also tempted by the idea of going to Barça to dislodge, over time, Lewandowski (36 years old) who is arriving at the end.
