Kylian Mbappé, used to shining on the pitch, recently spoke outside the sporting framework during an interview broadcast on Clique. Although this intervention aroused a lot of interest and reached a wide audience, it was not unanimous, particularly among a former PSG player.

A speech that divides

David Ginola, an emblematic figure of French football, gave his clear opinion on this approach. For him, this media outing was not only unnecessary, but also risky for a player of this stature. He deplores that Mbappé felt the need to justify himself publicly.

“I think it’s good that he did it, because the player’s name goes beyond the green rectangle and touches a lot of people. But, I find it unfortunate that we go on a show, talk informally,” Ginola said before adding:
“He doesn’t have to do it, he doesn’t have to be accountable.”

Mbappé continues to fuel discussions.

A star beyond justification?

Ginola also highlighted the excessive expectations around Mbappé’s notoriety. For him, pressure from the public and the media should not force a player of this caliber to explain his choices or his moods. “We are in a country where we make or break. He has proven in the past that he is a huge player, and here he is going through a slump,” he explained, before concluding: “Notoriety does not imply that he must justify himself.”

These statements, although critical, show a certain benevolence towards the Bondynois, but they raise a fundamental question: should a player of this level really participate in informal interviews?

Canal+ in a delicate position

By expressing himself in this way, Ginola indirectly calls into question a strong initiative from Canal+, which orchestrated this exclusive interview with Mbappé. If Hervé Mathoux, presenter of the show, was not of the same opinion, he welcomed the relevance of Ginola’s comments, reminding us that the debate remains open.
