Benjamin André, captain of LOSC, told La Voix du Nord the reasons for his refusal to join Christophe Galtier at the Qatari club Al-Duhail this summer. Far from financial opportunities, he explains this choice in all sincerity, highlighting his sporting and personal priorities. Here’s what he revealed.

Qatar: a missed opportunity

During the interview, the player confirmed the existence of
discussions for a possible departure to Qatar. However, despite the discussions and reflections, he preferred to stay at LOSC. He emphasizes: “There are moments in a career that are conducive to reflection. After all the discussions that there were, I think that my family and I made the right decision. I am very happy with it, especially when I see the season we are having”. A statement which shows his attachment to the Lille team and its ambitions in the Champions League.

Benjamin André remains loyal to LOSC

Asked about his choice, he explains that the decision was not taken lightly. He and his family weighed the pros and cons for a long time, ultimately favoring stability and sporting challenge within the French championship. In other words, he suggests that this choice was obvious, especially given the positive development of Lille this season.

Galtier, a call that did not convince

Despite the strong relationship between him and Christophe Galtier, this call from his former coach was not enough to distract him from his goals. For him, the Lille project remains more attractive. This choice also illustrates a desire for continuity and performance on the European scene. “Normally, if we beat Sturm Graz, with 13 points it’s good for qualification. But there will still be six points to take, the goal difference which will also count, so I’m not planning ahead.”

Benjamin André confirms here his determined character and his desire to put the collective before individual interests. This refusal to give in to the Qatari sirens could well be one of the keys to Lille’s success this season.
