After the first friendly match of the off-season, the Man City manager spoke about his Belgian star, Kevin De Bruyne.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said on Sunday that Kevin de Bruyne was close to a return to competition.

De Bruyne back soon

De Bruyne is recovering from a hamstring injury picked up in the Champions League final victory over Inter Milan (1-0). The Belgian missed this weekend’s winning match against Yokohama F Marinos.

“He feels much, much better,” assured Guardiola, City coach, after the game at the National Stadium of Japan. “He’s not sure if he can play against Bayern Munich or the next game against Atletico, because he has to train, but he is very close to his return.

While he released several of his strong men (Gundogan, Mahrez) this summer, Guardiola does not plan to do without De Bruyne. He is the element on which he has relied the most since he took charge of the team in 2016.

Nothing to worry about for Bernardo Silva

Note that Bernardo Silva was replaced by Maximo Perrone in the middle of the second half against the Nippons and Guardiola explained this replacement: “I wanted to give minutes to Max and Bernardo was already well on his feet. At 4-2, I gave minutes to Max”.
