It’s the big day. Despite the criticism, FIFA will proceed this Thursday, live from Miami, with the draw for the group stage of its brand new competition: the Club World Cup. A tournament, organized every four years, the first edition of which will be held in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025 and which will bring together no less than 32 teams.
On the French side, only Paris Saint-Germain is qualified. The capital club has the advantage of being one of the eight seeds present in pot 1. The Rouge et Bleu are thus guaranteed to avoid Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Flamengo, River Plate and Fluminense . For the rest, we find a format similar to a classic World Cup.
PSG is seeded
Namely, a group stage made up of eight groups of four teams. All clubs in the same group meet only once. The teams finishing in the first two places in each group qualify for the round of 16 and so on until the final on July 13, without a return match. Please note, however, that there is no match for third place.
In the simulation game, some already imagine PSG being placed in the reunion group with Neymar and Lionel Messi. Al-Hilal and Inter Miami being in hats 3 and 4 respectively, the two South Americans could challenge their former club which they left on bad terms.
