Former French footballer Bixente Lizarazu was surprised to see Pep Guardiola self-inflicted injuries. For him, this can only be proof that the famous coach suffers from a psychological problem.
For Lizarazu, Guardiola suffers a lot
After Manchester City’s draw in the Champions League against Feyenoord (3-3), the Catalan coach voluntarily scratched his head until he injured himself. The photos of him with his violent forehead went around the web. For Liza, however, the subject is serious and not a joke.
“This week he slashed his face after a match. It is a sign of immense mental suffering,
he declared in an interview with Le Parisien. That football brings you to this is a huge problem. But there are still blockages.”
He is also worried about Mbappé
For the 98 world champion, Guardiola is not the only football personality to be in difficulty at the moment. He thinks that his compatriot Kylian Mbappé is also going through an extremely complicated time: “Recently, I encouraged Didier Deschamps to recognize that Kylian Mbappé had mental health problems. Some of the reactions were: with the money he earns, he has no right to complain. Money certainly doesn’t solve these kinds of problems. And sometimes he even creates them.”
Lizarazu concluded by indicating that there is a need for general awareness to prevent athletes from finding themselves in such situations. “This is an area that needs to be looked at a lot more than it is being done. We have overlooked it for too long in high-level sport, because you had to be a high-performance machine without showing any flaws.”
