Arne Slot believes Kylian Mbappé and Mohamed Salah showed they are “human” after each missing a penalty during the clash between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Liverpool won 2-0 against Real Madrid on Wednesday, but the mythology surrounding Salah and Mbappé was somewhat shattered by their failures in the box. The Frenchman saw his shot on goal saved by Caoimhín Kelleher, before Salah fired wide of the goal. Mbappé missed to make it 1-0 while Salah was saved when Cody Gakpo scored Liverpool’s second goal six minutes after his miss.

The Bondynois has struggled this season, scoring eight goals in 17 games for Real and providing two assists. Salah has been much more productive, scoring 12 goals in 19 games and also registering 10 assists.

Slot told TNT Sports: “In both cases, we think the penalty will probably go in. Both failed, so they showed us today that they are both human beings. In the case of Mbappé, Kelleher was exceptional. He did a remarkable job for us, as did our other goalkeeper who was also remarkable. »

Kelleher, meanwhile, confirmed he never doubted he would save Mbappé’s penalty, saying: ” I was confident and luckily I made the right choice again. This is a great result. This is a huge result for us. We wanted to come out tonight and put in a good performance and well done to the guys for doing it. »

Liverpool next play Manchester City this weekend. Real face Getafe in La Liga on Sunday.
