Roberto Mancini has just admitted that he now regrets leaving the post of Italy coach.
Mancini left the Azzurri in August 2023 before being named Saudi Arabia coach a few weeks later. With the Desert Falcons, however, he did not stay very long since he was just dismissed for insufficient results.
Mancini admits his wrongs
The Italian technician told Il Giornale that if he had to do it again he would have acted differently : “No, I would not choose to leave the Italy bench again. This strong relationship of trust that I had with the Federation was mutually undermined. If I could go back in time, I would approach things differently. If (FIGC president Gabriele) Gravina and I had spoken, explained, clarified, things probably would not have taken this turn.”
Regarding the Saudi contract, Mancini also said : “I don’t deny that, for a coach, the proposal of such a high figure – even if it is lower than what the newspapers reported, eh -, makes you think. However, this was not decisive. “It had an impact, but that’s not the only reason I left the national team bench.”
“What if I regret a bad choice? Well, leaving the national team was a bad choice that I wouldn’t do again“, he concluded. The train may not return soon. Now, Luciano Spalletti is installed at the head of La Nazionale and he is well established.
