Last night, Luis Enrique made a strong choice by starting Matvey Safonov in the Champions League against Bayern Munich. Reassuring at the start, the Russian made an error on the German goal (1-0). But he retains the confidence of Luis Enrique, who defended him. The latter accepted his decision to have lined up in the starting eleven in place of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
RMC Sport explains, however, that the Italian was obviously not 100% last night. “He has been ill and is probably not completely recovered”admitted one of his relatives on French radio. Indeed, “Gigio” had been the victim of an intestinal virus during the last international break and he would not have fully recovered. It remains to be seen whether this influenced the balance of the staff, who greatly appreciate Safonov’s kicking game. Which is not the strong point of the former AC Milan man.
