Real Madrid have been taken aback by Paris Saint-Germain’s decision to part ways with Kylian Mbappé, according to Spanish media.
Paris leaders decided to leave the 24-year-old in France for the Japan tour because he refused to communicate a decision on his future. Mbappé has been officially placed on the transfer list by PSG, who are looking for potential buyers.
This drama was first triggered by the forward’s refusal to activate his contract extension, becoming a free agent next summer. PSG do not want to let their star go for nothing, and Nasser Al-Khelaifi has therefore given the Bondynois a deadline for him to make a final decision on his contractual situation.
Today, Mbappé has been kicked out of the first team, a judgment also motivated by the fact that PSG suspect the Frenchman of already having an agreement with Real Madrid for a transfer in 2024. According to Spanish media, this is far from the case.
Real “surprised” by the news
COPE claim that the news of Mbappé’s exile by PSG ‘surprised Real Madrid’. The French player was part of the advertising campaign for the tour of Japan – which is expected to net PSG at least €20m – and so the decision to exclude him from the trip caught Madrid off guard.
Los Blancos have kept a close eye on the situation but refrained from making any public statements about it after finding themselves betrayed last year when Mbappé was close to joining the club but eventually signed a new contract with the Parisians.
