Laurent Blanc, the big emotion

Younger people can’t remember it. Laurent Blanc began his professional career as an attacking midfielder, or even an attacker. It was the mid-1980s in Montpellier. The central defender of the French team, 1998 world champion (suspended for the final) and Europe 2000, once again wore the jersey of the Hérault club this November 16, 2024, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the club founded in particular by Louis Nicollin.

Laurent Blanc found himself on the lawn of the La Mosson stadium, in the company of other “former players” who made the history of the MHSC. The ex-coach of the Blues, Bordeaux or PSG had as teammate on Saturday, Pionnier, Utaka, Hilton, Pitau, Mapou, Bédimo, Robert and Bakayoko. The emotion was particularly strong when the tribute to “Loulou” Nicollin came in the 74th minute of play. A standing stadium applauded in tribute to the one who left in June 2017.
