More and more football celebrities are entering management by investing in clubs and Iniesta is the latest to open his wallet by buying Danish third division club Helsingor. He will officially co-own the club after his sports management company NSN reached an agreement with Swiss investment group Stoneweg to complete the takeover.

Speaking after the announcement, Iniesta said: “ After playing as a professional, it motivates me a lot to start this new phase of my life, bringing my experience to a club like FC Helsingor, the first project of an exciting alliance between NSN and Stoneweg. It’s a fantastic opportunity to experience football in a different way.”

Investing is therefore the ideal next step for the Spaniard after retirement. At the same time, the forty-year-old is training as a coach with a view to becoming a coach in the future. Like Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney who did this with Wrexham, Iniesta will want to progress Helsingor into the higher divisions in Denmark in the years to come.

With Iniesta at the helm, Helsingor can count on a strong Catalan presence within the club to lead it forward. Sporting director Quim Ramon previously worked for Barcelona’s academy while coach Pep Alomar was the club’s youth director.
