Manchester United is refusing to offer an ambassadorial role to Wayne Rooney, we learned from the English press.
The former England and United striker, and current manager of Plymouth Argyle, was offered the honorary position before INEOS took control of the club. Now that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s group are running the sporting operations, the Daily Star claims United will not make Rooney their ambassador.
Rooney and Ferguson forgotten
The club also axed Sir Alex Ferguson’s position from next season. The successful ex-Red Devils manager will no longer be paid for his appearances in the stands at Old Trafford.
Although the goal of these measures is to save money, many fans have questioned their relevance. We also say that the waste was much more glaring in other areas. For example, the club spent more money to fire Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff, after offering them new contracts during the summer.
