The January transfer window should allow OL to strengthen themselves in the midfield sector with the arrival of a high-level player. Thiago Almada, world champion with Argentina in 2022, was supposed to arrive at Les Gones at that time. But this coming is now anything but certain.
Almada got on well with OL during the previous offseason. The Rhone residents had paid 17 million euros (plus 3 million bonuses) for his services. Despite this investment, they chose to leave him on loan to Botafogo, the other club of their president John Textor. However, the player likes it and has no intention of moving.
OL facing a problem
According to the sporting director of the Brazilian club, Almada is not very keen to join Lyon in the middle of the season. He wishes to complete the current exercise across the Atlantic. And this is also the case for Brazilian international winger (4 caps), Luiz Henrique. Textor risks being moderately affected by this about-face by his defector.
As a reminder, Thiago Almada, who also played with Atlanta in MLS, had touches with Marseille. The Marseille club had been very close to enlisting him when Jorge Sampaoli was in charge of the first team.
