Sometimes the game is worth the candle. On the shelves of FC Barcelona to take over from Segio Busquets in the midfield, Oriol Romeu has officially committed to Barça for the next three seasons. A year after his arrival in Girona, the Spanish midfielder made the decision to return to the fold to give new impetus to his career. But to return to Catalonia after twelve years of exile, the 31-year-old made enormous financial sacrifices!

In effect, Sport reveals that the player who passed through Stuttgart and Southampton had to give up part of his salary as well as a commission to put on the Blaugrana tunic. The Spanish media informs that Girona proved intractable during the negotiations by claiming the sum of €4.5 million from its Catalan counterpart, the amount of Oriol Romeu’s termination clause in addition to interest. If Barça agreed to pay the amount equivalent to the only clause, i.e. €3.4m, the club refused to pay the additional interest. Faced with the prospect of seeing his transfer be aborted, it was the player himself who resigned himself to paying the remaining sum out of his own pocket. As a reminder, Oriol Romeu has already flown to join his new teammates and participate in the summer preparation in the United States.
