The 9th day of the Premier League continued this Saturday afternoon in England. During the 4 p.m. meetings, Manchester City aimed to temporarily regain first place in the ranking across the Channel. Dangerous from the start, the Skyblues broke the barrier of the poorly classified by opening the score thanks to the 11th goal of the season from Erling Haaland (5th). Despite a plethora of chances in the first half, the score did not change. Returning from the locker room, the Norwegian striker missed many opportunities which prevented Pep Guardiola’s men from taking off (50th, 52nd, 64th). With this success, Manchester City climbs to provisional first place while awaiting the weekend’s results.

At the same time, Aston Villa struggled to get victory against Bournemouth. While John McGinn thought he opened the scoring in the first period before seeing his goal disallowed for a ball out, it was ultimately Ross Barkley who thought he gave the Villans victory at the end of the match (78th). Despite the former Nice player’s first goal in his new colors, the Birmingham club was taken over at the last minute by Evanilson (1-1, 90+6th). With this draw, Aston Villa climbs onto the podium. For its part, Brighton was held by Wolverhampton after a superb comeback from Wolves. The latter glean their second point of the season and leave last place. Finally, Brentford won against Ipswich after a spectacular match. In the final seconds of play, Bryan Mbeumo gave the Bees victory.

The 4 p.m. meetings:

Manchester City 1-0 Southampton: Haaland (5th)

Brighton 2-2 Wolverhampton: Welbeck (45th), Ferguson (88th) / Aït Nouri (88th), Matheus Cunha (90+3)

Brentford 4-3 Ipswich Town: Wissa (44th), Clarke (csc, 45+1e), Mbeumo (51st, sp, 90+6th) / Szmodics (28th), Hirst (31st), Delap (86th)

Aston Villa 1-1 Bournemouth: Barkley (78th) / Evanilson (90+6th)
