Two referees suspended by UEFA after traffic sign theft

UEFA suspended two referees after their arrest for a rather original reason, a few hours before a Champions League match.

This is an incident likely to perpetuate a not very glorious cliché for the Poles, a proverb of which associates them with a certain penchant for alcohol. Bartosz Frankowski and Tomasz Musial have been suspended by UEFA after having trouble with the police.

The two referees were arrested for stealing a road sign while under the influence of alcohol, hours before the Champions League qualifying match between Glasgow Rangers and Dynamo kyiv on August 6.

A bad joke

The two men were to officiate as referees in the VAR system. Fined at the time, they were banned until June 30, 2025 for violating the “
fundamental rules of good conduct » decreed by the UEFA control, ethics and disciplinary body.

I’m still trying to find the words that will adequately express how much I regret this incident and how sorry I amreacted Bartosz Frankowski in a press release. We didn’t expect it to be perceived this way. We had no bad intentions. It was nonsense, a stupid fantasy, I don’t even know what to call it. »
